1995 Dodge Avenger Show Car

1993 Dodge Avenger

We at Mobile Sound Systems were lucky enough to get to design and build this terrific system for Bruce McGivern of SCL Products, the Canadian MTX distributor.  It was to be used as a daily driver but also had to be used as a show & demo vehicle.  But as always there was a catch. We were requested not to cut anything & drill as few holes as possible. The result: NO CUTTING and 7 HOLES DRILLED.

The 4" Thunder Pro speakers in the dash were angled in order to fire straight out rather than firing down. We thought that getting sound up was better than giving your knees a great sound. The MNT-1F Soft Dome Tweeters were installed in the factory locations aimed off the windshield to the opposite headrest in order to get a reasonable reflection off the window. The imaging off a windshield isn't usually the best but the result with these tweeters was astounding.

One of the positives of working on the Avenger is the depth of the front doors. It was a great relief to find that the Thunder Pro TP640 6.5" Midbass driver just bolted into the factory plastic modules, no cutting. In the doors these speakers produce incredible midbass.

Just had to put in a picture of the pile of some of the product that was installed in the car. Nice pile of great product.

On the rear shelf 5 x 7 masonite plates were made to bolt the TP640 6.5" Thunderpro Midbass drivers & MNT-1F tweeters. Again mounting to the factory holes. When the interior was reinstalled, nothing out of the ordinary is noticeable. Everything fits properly & all product with the exception of the Clarion Head Unit, is completely hidden.

The enclosure was built exactly to size. It actually squealed on the rear shelf when it was slid in from inside the car. The sides of the box had to be shaved & beefed up with fiberglass & marglass for strength. We would be putting a fair amount of power to the TC124 MTX Thunder Cast Subwoofers. The amplifiers of choice were 2 - T2160 MTX 2x80 Watt amplifiers running mono to each 12" Subwoofer. These amplifiers, according to the article in Car Stereo Review-July/Aug/95, when bridged, the T2160 kicked out a monstrously beefy 424.4 watts into 4 ohms at 12 volts.

The thoughts behind this were to use a 4th order base reflex enclosure and to position the ports into the back seat. When the seat is down the tuning frequency rises a couple of hertz and tunes a little higher for some of the dance tunes & rock. Then when the seat is up the tuning frequency drops to handle some of the deeper bass tunes that accompany sound cars to all of the sound shows. We also had to cover the port tubes, to prevent dust & other foreign particles from being sucked into the enclosure. This was added after we had to clean the inside of the mirrored Plexiglas box, numerous times. Not a fun job. Just ask Dave Wedgewood of Milton Ontario, one of the installers responsible for this fine piece of work. The look of the car had to be pleasing when the seat was down, so we used a Tomato Vinyl that matched the red logo on the MTX Thunder Amplifiers.

See the nice mirrored plexi. The stuff looks great but is a real nasty thing to keep clean. We had MTX ROX written in neon tube backwards and mounted it to the roof of the enclosure. With the mirrored plexi on all surfaces of the box, except the back wall which is 3/4" clear Plexiglas, you can read the neon from the mirrored floor of the box. In this photo, it looks really busy in there, yes - no? 2 - 500,000 microfarad Stinger Stiffening Caps were installed, one for each Subwoofer amp. They each were installed with their own little mirrored triangle boxes.

The box looks great at indoor shows

Yes it sure looks busy in there.

The rear shelf was vinyled & the factory rear light was reinstalled. A magnetic switch was installed. When the rear cover panels are installed the neon turns off & the trunk light turns on.

Here's Dave before we install the bottom amp rack. 1 - MTX Thunder T240 to run the TP440 4" & all 4 of the MNT-1F Tweeters.1 - MTX Thunder T280 to run the 4 - TP640 - 6.5" Midbass drivers. In the picture below you will see two electronic crossovers. 1 - RTX03A that crosses all frequencies of the 4 amplifiers and an RTX01A that is used as a subsonic filter. We don't want people at shows using some strange music, that resides in the lower regions of shake u up bass blowing subwoofers.

Vinyled trim panels for all surfaces. All panels mounted on 1" dowels for strength. Now the trunk will support just about anything you want to throw in there.

I don't pretend to be a photographer, as you can see by my shadow, nice move bonehead.

This is one area we wanted to be usable. Most custom vehicles cannot use the trunk area because it's sometimes full. Now we have a smaller usable trunk. At least you can put something larger than a quarter in the trunk. I am sorry to say that no pictures were taken of the S1602 Stinger 106 Amp Battery Isolator, or any of the Stinger Interconnects. From the Pro O-Zero Gauge 4214 Strand Power Wire to the Singer King Triple Shielded OFC Interconnects, all hookup wiring & interconnects were from STINGER High Performance Car Audio. Pictures of this product are being processed as we speak.

Here is the list of product installed in this car:
